On 14th March 2023, an awareness program was organized at Lala Ami Chand Law College, Ugala, to educate female students about HIV/AIDS and the harmful effects of drug abuse. The program was conducted by Shikshataru Education and Learning Foundation (SELF), in which members of Vihaan NGO, Mr. Ashok and Mr. Ashish, participated as the main speakers. The Principal of the college, Dr. Vikas Kumar, welcomed all the guests to the institution. In their address, the speakers stated that HIV/AIDS is an incurable disease, and a person infected with HIV has to depend on medicines throughout life. They emphasized that AIDS can affect anyone, and everyone should get tested. They also provided detailed information about the symptoms, causes, and prevention of AIDS. The Directors of Shikshataru Education and Learning Foundation (SELF), Mr. Bharat Bhushan and Mr. Rahmdeen, explained that in many cases, the symptoms of HIV/AIDS do not appear early. In the initial stage, a person appears completely healthy. After some time, symptoms begin to appear. Fever, fatigue, dry cough, weight loss, spots on the skin, mouth, eyes, or around the nose, weakening memory over time, and body pain are some of the major symptoms of this disease. They further stated that everyone should be aware of serious diseases like HIV/AIDS and should undergo testing. During the session, the trainers also highlighted that the increasing trend of drug use through injections is raising the risk of HIV among youth. All staff members were present on this occasion.
